Britax Car Seats (Off Topic Rant)

We are going to go a little bit off the topic of birds. Feel free to skip this post if it does not interest me. Not only will I not know about it, but if I did, it wouldn’t bother me.
When my youngest child was born, I really, really wanted to buy one of the Britax car seats for her. Unfortunately, she is now almost 6 years old and we have yet to be able to afford one of these seats. I know they are supposed to be the safest car seat on the market. And I have always wondered why, then, do they price them to be out of the affordability range of most families? What average American family can afford $200+ for a car seat? And if you were to have more than one child you really can’t afford them. Just to buy a replacement cover is at least $50. Craziness! I want my children to be as safe as they can be. So Britax, get a clue and lower your retail cost on your seats!

I hear you on that one. Britax is awesome. But there are also lots of really excellent car seats out there. Know that car seat manufacturers have to test their car seats to the same standards of safety. One of the reasons why Britax car seats are considered safest is because they feature car seats with high harness weight limits (up to 80 lbs!), which means you get to keep your kid in a harnessed seat for as long as possible (instead of stopping at 40 lbs like many lower end seats). You can get safety comparable to Britax (though maybe without the international standards of testing that Britax does) by purchasing the car seat with the highest harness weight limit you can afford. Aim for a 65 lb weight limit, and you’ll be well on your way to a super safe car seat.

For seat covers, i prefer to use cotton or polyester woven fabric because i like its feel.`-:
