If you are a sensitive birder, you may want to skip this post. My son has a b-b gun and hunts sparrows with it. We have a large number of English house sparrows and we allow him to hunt them. He is not a great shot and they are tiny birds so he doesn’t get too many of them. The other day he did manage to hit one. The way the girls were fussing over the dying bird was a bit comical. I thought one of them was going to whip out a littman stethoscope and start doing an assessment on it. English house sparrows are an introduced specie that came in the 1850’s. I happen to live in one of the areas where they are found in the greatest numbers. They are a pest of backyard bird feeders. I tend to feed only English house sparrows when I have feeders out. Because they are an introduced species we allow our son to hunt them.
