Teaching Our Kids

The other day as my 4 year old and I were getting in the van she said “I see a cardinal.” Sure enough there was a male cardinal sitting in a pine tree. They are never too young to be taught to identify birds. All of my kids know more birds than most kids their age. It is something that I didn’t consciously do. But my love for them has just rubbed off on them. I don’t say look at that bird. I say look at that mourning dove. Never think that your kids are too young for birding! It is a great way to build a common bond that you will share for life.

I try to do that with my son, too. I just got him binoculars for his birthday so he can see them more up close and personal.
