Things are really revving up in the bird department! I am noticing a that there are a lot of male fights happening in my yard. Its amazing how spring acts like a testosterone booster. Males are setting up territories and wooing the ladies. This invariably includes must fighting and posturing by the boys. Remember in the bird world things like winning a fight, boldest color, largest beak, etc are very attractive to the ladies. It is pretty incredible how different things are attractive to different species. Some of the things (like the longest tail feathers) seem so strange to us. However, I am pretty sure that even within our own human population there are times when you think the same thing! I encourage you to really pay attention to the different birds in your yard this spring. Try to figure out what the ladies deem attractive. Look it up after you have made your guess and see if you are right.
