Quail Habitat
Sunday, July 27th, 2008About a week ago our neighbor mowed our north pasture. Since then I have not heard the Bobwhite quail close to the house. Its a fine line we walk. We can’t let the pasture go to seed and have the grass die back too early in the season. But if we mow it then the quail lose some of their summer habitat. So we let the pasture go as long as we possibly can before we mow. Now, I still hear plenty of quail but it just isn’t close to the house. I hear them back by the creek and in our neighbor’s pasture. Before long, the grass will be tail enough to afford them some cover and they will be back in our pasture.
