Territorial
Friday, April 20th, 2007This is the time of the year when male birds are establishing their territories. I hear robins and cardinals pretty frequently singing to clarify that this area is theirs on no other males are welcome. Cardinals are pretty fierce about defending their territories. Have you ever seen one crash into a window? Windows act like Makeup Mirrors creating a reflection of the bird. The bird thinks it is another male and flys at it. CRASH! It slams into the window. Sometimes the cardinal is fine and sometimes it isn’t. There are many different things you can try to deter this behavior if it happens frequently. A easy one is to tape cutouts of owls to the windows. It might save a few birds by doing this.
