National Bird Feeding Month
Friday, February 16th, 2007Thank you to Mrs. Crumley for pointing out that this is National Bird Feeding Month. February was designated as such 12 years ago by Congress when Illinois 10th District Congressman John Porter read a resolution declaring it National Bird Feeding Month. Typically February is the hardest month for birds to find food. I found that interesting but it does make sense as it is nearing the end of winter. The resolution presented by Congressman Porter states “During this month, individuals are encouraged to provide food, water and shelter to help wild birds survive. This assistance benefits the environment by supplementing wild bird‚s natural diet of weed seeds and insects.” I found a nice website called Project FeederWatch that has a lot of great information on birding and feeding birds. Be sure to set aside some time to read through all of their pages. Also make sure to fill your feeders and bathes during this month!
